This was a fantastic way to start my Tuesday! The race was definitely challenging from running on the beach to navigating through the kelp beds, but it was well worth getting up at 4:45am. It is such a great low key event, I wish they would put it on more than once a year. The swims had plenty of lifequards to help you navigate the waters, and the food at the finish line was amazing. I absolutely recommend this race to anyone, especially those who live in the area and can get in a great workout before heading to work.
I did the 100K, the course was beautiful and on some great country roads with little traffic. The rest stops had plenty to eat and drink, and there were more stops then necessary so we skipped a few but it was nice to have the option. The course was well marked and the volunteers at the stops were very nice and helpful. I would definitely do this ride again, it was a lot of fun and a great way to spend a Saturday morning
This was a great race! The course was incredibly hard because of hills, creek crossings and sharp turns but absolutely beautiful. The directors did a great job of marking the course and putting people out on the course to tell you where to go and what to expect next. I will definitely do this race again next year! I would say there were only 2 problems. 1: with 300 women they need more than 4 bathrooms at the start. 2: The sound system had to be kept pretty quite so it was hard to hear the prerace talk and awards.Otherwise thanks for the fun run.
I've done the race twice and it's been fun, but there's definitely room for improvement. They chose some really beautiful parts to run in but provide absolutely no support, you have to buy food at the aid stations, they don't alert the people who live in the area that the race will be going through, and the night runs are a little sketchy. It is a pretty cool experience to run from Calistoga to Davenport (they changed the course) and it's a great bonding experience with the six others in your van. Just be ready to smell and get no sleep.
I'm still debating whether this or Ironman Coeur d'Alene was harder. The scenery was gorgeous but the head winds were horrible. It's definitely not the place to PR but to see what you are capable of. It definitely sucked to get up at 3am, but it's understandable when they have to bus everyone out to various starting locations. The only problem I had with the race was that they didn't have any food or gels on the course till mile 13. It would have been helpful to know that before hand, so I could have carried something with me.
I've done this race a few times and always had a great time. It can get pretty hot but it's a fun course.
